My 74 year old, 5 foot , 240 pound mother asked me to keep an eye out for an exercise bike for her at yard sales. I was really concerned about her on an exercise bike because she lives alone as is not very steady on her feet. She is actually quite healthy and mobile for her age and weight, but I still had visions of her tobbleing over while trying to climb up on an exercise bike. I also figured the old style seat would be so uncomfortable for her that the bike would get used for the first week or to and then wind up being pushed in a corner and collecting dust. I stumbled across this bike while Christmas shopping. It was on sale for a heavily discounted price so it caught my eye. I read the reviews and looked at other similiar bikes. I decided this was worth the gamble. My mother had an exercise bike when I was young and you could not pull her off of it. The same is now true for this bike. I now worry that she will over do it. The bike is perfect for her to get in and out of easily and the chair is so comfortable for her that she uses it as a chair also. She does have to reach just a tiny bit for the pedals when her legs are extendted, but at 5 feet that would be true of anything. She has to put a pillow in her car seat so she can reach the gas. This is not a far enough reach to be uncomfortable for her or to put a strain on her back. My biggest concern in regards to my mothers health is her weight and with this bike she is able to safely exercise on her own at her leisure. The seat is plenty wide enough for her to sit comfortably and the handles are in the perfect place to help her get up and down. The seat is not too high or too low and I have no worries in regards to her tumbleing over. She is excited about her progress and is calling me often to update how long, far and fast she is able to go. Moving is so important at her age and I am so happy that she now has an easy option to keep her moving. She is down right giddy about the bike and reminds me of my girls when they were little on Christmas morning. From all the previous reviews, I knew these hand exercisers would be good solid devices - and they are. My only concern was what tension level to pick. Just as a data point for others, I'm a 71 inches tall, 180 pounds, fit male. I lift weights regularly, but am by no means a bodybuilder or powerlifter. I purchased the medium strength units, wondering if 7 lbs per finger was too much or too little. I've found that if I power grip them (basically just grab them like a barbell, squeeze and release), I can easily do 100 or more repetitions. This leads me to think that the Mediums are too light if I only want to power grip. Same is probably true for many of you.

However, two things changed my mind about this. First I went to the Prohands website and found that several of the exercises they demonstrate (e.g. fingertipping) are much harder than the simple power grip. Also, by holding the grip for 3-5 seconds as recommended, even the power grip becomes more challenging. In the end, I've decided that the 7 lb units give me a very good workout.

My suggestion is if you only want to power grip, then you may want something heavier - obviously dependent on your hand strength. But if you value doing exercises that fully articulate your fingers in various ways, then you might want to try the Mediums.

I have several regular AA minimags, 1st generation led mini mag and now a 2nd generation.
The 2nd gen is a vast improvement on the first.

First, its brighter than the 1st gen.

Second, if you quickly turn it off then on again, then it dims to save power, blinks, or blinks SOS.

Third, the 2nd gen is shorter then the 1st gen though still longer than the original. I dont know what they were thinking, but the 1st gen had a longer barrel/body with a tail cap that lacked the keyring hole. It was longer because the tail cap was longer at the inside threading and held a longer spring so the barrel/body had to be longer to accommodate it, but I really didn't see a purpose to do that. It was just wasted space. The 2nd gen has a tailcap that is identical to the original minimag, which allowed me to replace the tailcap with a push button on/off switch (made by niteize) that i originally had installed on one of my other minimags.

Mini mags are durable and led bulbs uses much less energy so it can stay on for much longer. Its a great combination.

I LOVE Lock Laces! I've always hated shoelaces and never understood why they still exist.
